BIOGRAPHY

deeann.jpg

Deeann Rieves received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Memphis College of Art in December 2007 with an emphasis on painting.  She works full time in her studio and her mixed-media paintings have been featured in numerous solo exhibitions and juried group shows across the United States. Her paintings combine fabric, machine embroidery, and fiber techniques that disrupt and distort the surfaces, which become their own organic forms of sculptural painting.

Spills and Coverings, her current series, has been featured in three solo exhibits, the first at Memphis College of Art’s Alumni Gallery in October 2010 and more recently at Downtown Pres Gallery in Memphis’s gallery district this past June and at The Renaissance Center in Dickson, TN in August. Other pieces from this series appeared this Spring in Fiber Plus in New York, Fantastic Fibers in Paducah, KY, and the Rome Art Coterie in Rome, GA where her piece By A Thread won 3rd place. This Summer, other pieces were featured in The Elegant Line at The Village Theater Gallery in California and two pieces were on display at Metro Montage XI at Marietta Cobb Museum of Art in Marietta, GA where No Longer Bound was awarded 3rd place.

In her first two years as a working artist, Deeann was featured in three solo shows in Arkansas and Tennessee featuring her first body of work, Embody. For two consecutive years she has been in the Renaissance Regional Art Exhibit at The Renaissance Center. Her work appeared in Fiber Focus 2009 in St. Louis, Missouri and two more pieces from Spills and Coverings are in Fiber Focus 2011 this Fall.
